Get started with leather marking
Leather is a generic term that refers to any type of hide (skin), whether natural (of animal origin) or synthetic (man-made). If at all possible, utilize synthetic materials for laser marking or engraving leather. Not only is this morally responsible, but because to the constant nature of a man-made product vs a genuine animal hide, it is frequently easier to accomplish with a more predictable result.
Primary types of leather
There are a multitude of different colours, thickness and types of leather. Leather can be plain in finish, embossed with patterns or even retaining fur or hair:
Full-grain leather - highest quality
Top grain leather - second highest quality
Corrected grain (bottom/cut split leather)
Bonded leather - lowest quality
